IGO energy have secured a connection and land rights over a 200MW BESS project. The project is located in the North West of England and will be co-developed by IGO Energy and a third-party developer who will collaborate toward the site reaching RTB, (ready-to-build), status.
The project has been onboarded by a large infrastructure fund who intend to construct the project.
MD Anthony Anderson said the following about the project; "This is an exciting time for IGO energy, having secured a project of such substantial size. The project will provide the landowner, and future generations, with significant income, whilst providing the local area with energy security, increasing biodiversity, and providing substantial contributions toward community benefit funds and will pay a good amount of business rates taxes to the local authority."
On BESS in general, Anthony commented; " As energy demand in the UK increases, it is absolutely critical to that BESS projects are implemented to support the UK's outdated infrastructure. To put it simply, our infrastructure cannot cope with the amount of electricity we need to generate to satisfy user demand. As more onshore and offshore wind and solar projects come online, and as electric vehicle uptake increases, our grid cannot transmit or store this level of energy. We as an organisation are committed to ensuring that communities are protected against energy rationing and blackouts, and that cheap clean energy is available, without a continuation of surging energy bills. These types of projects avoid the need for new overhead lines and substations to be built, and can be hidden in the corners of non-public and small rural areas, masked by hedgerows, protecting the landscape and skyline from unsightly energy infrastructure."
